More recaps about Chicago! Quite frankly, I had an amazing time. I love that city. I love the food. I love all the walking I have to do. I love the trains. I love my friends who live there. Did I mention that I love the food? Seriously, there is no match for Pie-Eyed Pizza.

My Week In Chicago (So Far)

Pretty much, Chicago has been amazing. I freakin’ love this city. I do so much walking that I should be able to fit in all my jeans by the time I go back… but I don’t want to think about going back yet.

The notable places I’ve eaten in Chicago so far include:

· Ed Debevic’s. There I had a grilled chicken sandwich and fries. It’s a definitely touristy stop, but I enjoyed it just the same. The waiter kept calling me weirdo and then all the servers did a fun performance. And who can fault a place that plays While My Guitar Gently Weeps???? I mean, come on! The food was really good, and I had fun there.
· May Street Market. The May Street Market is a bit fancy, but delicious food just the same. I had the BBQ oxtail po’boy with fries. The chef sent out a crispy thing with mushrooms on it. I liked the crispy thing. I’ve been trying to develop a taste for mushrooms, but I’m just not feeling it. πŸ™
· McDonalds (special because it was dinner before Wicked!)
…and some philly steak place on Belmont, where I had corned beef and fries.

I’ve eaten a LOT of fries this week. Oh wait, that’s nothing new.

Today, I’m thinking Hot Doug’s< . I'll get my first Chicago-style hotdog, only with no onions so it'll probably not really be Chicago-style.... but I'm sure it'll be good just the same. πŸ˜€ ETA: POO! No Hot Doug's for me! πŸ™ He won't be open again until September 15th. Sigh.) Tuesday, I got to see Bob Dylan in Ft. Wayne. My first Dylan show. It was General Admission, but I managed to make my way up to the third row center. HOLY CRAP. He was right there. Since I'm a Dylan noob, I didn't recognize ANY of the songs he did (he didn't do any from Modern Times, boo. I'll have to try to make it to another show for that!), but that didn't mean they didn't sound good. *goes to look at setlist* The only one I didn’t care much for much was Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum I enjoyed Highway 61 Revisited a LOT. And All Along the Watchtower COOKED. WOW. Summer Days was a lot of fun to watch. The bouncy twins were in the front row and I know he was laughing at them. At the end of the song, he pointed to them. Ha. He also showed off his pretty new sparkly rings.

I have to say this. Adam (adamselzer) and Mike are good road trip partners. They’re funny as hell, and they had me laughing like crazy (when I wasn’t sleeping in the backseat). They’re huge Dylan fans and enjoyed teaching me all about Dylan–well, as much as they could fit into a road trip that lasted a few hours. I had to laugh at times, as they’re Chicago-ans and therefore don’t drive much, so I had to help them figure out how to get the defrost to work, and I pumped the gas. It was weird, knowing more about cars than the guys.

I slept on part of the drive home, but from what I hear, it was very terrifying. Lots of thick, dense fog, road construction, and surreal-ness. Steak and Shake was fun, though. And so was the diner we ate at on the way in–I can’t remember the name, but it was in Indiana, and it was 24 hours, and I had breakfast there. Yummy food.

Yesterday, I headed to the Oriental Theatre around 4pm to enter the Wicked drawing. When the first two rows of a show don’t sell out, you can enter your name in a raffle, and if you’re picked, for $25 a ticket (regular price $80), you get a front or second row ticket. A bunch of people did NOT show up for the drawing, but I was still THRILLED when my name was called!!! I ran up to the front, and presented my ID. They finished the drawing, and the girl in charge had us all crowd in very closely. That’s when she broke the news that THIS WEEK ONLY, they were doing a special thing, and the winners of the drawing would be able to meet some of the cast members and get autographs. No photos, but still!! I FREAKED THE HELL OUT. I just couldn’t even believe it. I was jumping up and down and acting all kinds of crazy. When I turned in my voucher for my ticket, I looked down and noticed that I was in row A, seat 114. Yes, front row center, my friends. FRONT ROW CENTER.

I could hear the cast do their last-minute hurrah backstage before the show started. The orchestra guy came out and looked around and said “Oh wow! People!” Then the show started. The actress who played Galinda/Glinda (Stacie Morgain Lewis) was incredible. So much fun to watch. Her role must be so much fun to play. Seriously, she needed some Ritalin like whoa. Elphaba was played by Kristy Cates, and she was amazing as well. Okay, when Elpaba first appeared on stage, I seriously started crying. I didn’t know it’d affect me like that, but wow.

The musical was amazing, OF COURSE. Kristy did a great job of playing Elphaba. She had the dry humor and sauciness really fit the role. My first time seeing Wicked, and I was in the front row center. How can one beat that? HOW???? I can’t even believe how incredibly lucky I am, and how incredibly amazing 2006 has been for me so far. And there are still about three more months to go!!

After the show, the raffle winners were led downstairs, where Heidi Kettenring (Nessarose) and Adam Fleming (Boq) were signing autographs. They were very nice and smiley and friendly. I was still reeling, and I was smiling so much all evening. Because honestly. Just wow!!

(I did splurge and get myself a “defy gravity” shirt. Now I can be twins with swankivy!!! πŸ™‚ Tee-hee!)

Here’s the cast list: [link].

Watching the show made me miss performing on stage a LOT.

I LOVE this city. I’m totally learning my way around, and all the walking is SO good for me. Going back to regular life is going to be very hard after this. πŸ™ But I’m not going to think about that now. I’ve still got a few days left!!! YAY!

I should try to get some writing done. ‘Til next time!

Holy WOW!

Guess what I just did?

I just watched Wicked. From the front row center. Then I got to meet two of the cast members.

Eeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!

HOLY CRAP! My first time ever seeing Wicked, and I got front row center, AND I got to meet the actors who played Boq and NessaRose.

I cried when Elphaba first came on stage. πŸ™‚

Yes, yes, and hip, hip hooray for Wicked drawings at which I WIN!!!! Wheeeeee!!!

More soon. I gotta write something about how I was in the third row center of the Bob Dylan concert Tuesday night.

Later, gators! πŸ˜€

P.S. The week is going WAY too quickly. πŸ™

Scandalous Princesses

Yo ho yo ho!! I’m back from Chicago!! Had an absolutely AMAZING time. That city is simply unbelievable, with mostly friendly people, things to do and see, things to EAT. Oh my gosh. Some of the aromas wafting through the air while walking down the block–so yummy. Freshly baking bread. Pizza everywhere. Mmmmmm.

Got to hang out with quality people while there. Spent some time with the awesome Adam (adamselzer) and Jen*Jen (jebbyk–but don’t bother to go to her journal because she never uses it), ate some really good food (Pie-Eyed Pizza, a neat candy/ice cream shop to name a couple of places)… DUDE, I TRIED THAI FOOD for the first time ever! It was so good. I went easy, got the Pad Thai. I mean, what could be so scary about noodles and beef, right? It was delicious.

Pad Thai

Highlights:
– Southwest Airline Flight Attendant: Thank you for flying Southwest. Now get out.
– Seeing Who Framed Roger Rabbit at The Music Box. The Music Box is a beautiful theatre. Here is Bizzy and me clowing around in the lobby before hand:

Bizzy and Me

– The cab ride after Roger Rabbit. Apparently Chicago cabbies are insane. They don’t speak much English, but they do have the cuss words down. One memorable thing the cab driver blurted: Learn how drive, mother fuck!
SEEING JEN!!! Spending time, catching up, drinking wine (goooood wine) and taking pictures while wearing tiaras.
– The Ghost Tour. Always a good time. We were wild and crazy! Adam was great as a tour guide. The last time I went on a tour, he was tag-teaming it, but this time, he was solo. Good times.
Woooo!

– Tried Stout. Liked it. The first beer I’ve ever actually liked. It’s a miracle, I say!
– FOOD! Pie-Eyed Pizza! Goood coffee and hot chocolate.
– Wearing a tiara during the ghost tour. While nicely buzzing. Then heckling the tour guide. πŸ˜‰
– Old Town Arts Fair. Yummmy food. I had a boneless BBQ rib sammich. Yummm.
– Corned beef sandwhich from a shop in the airport. Sooo good.
– Finishing CRUSH! Came in at over 50,000 words. WHEW!! πŸ˜€

Lowlights:
– Bizzy losing her camera. πŸ™ BUT, this story has a happy ending! Jen, Bizzy, and I had to backtrack (a LOT of walking, mind you), search all the stores we’d been in. The last store we had left to check… wait for it… HAD THE CAMERA! Some nice person had just turned it in! Let me tell you how awesome Chicago tends to be in that regard. People there are generally nicer and friendlier than in Ohio.
– Getting yelled at by some PRICK in some stupid thrift shop for taking photos. Okay, firstly, I had no idea that I wasn’t allowed to take photos (and seriously, wtf kind of rule is that anyway?), secondly, HE WAS A PRICK. He didn’t ask me nicely, he screamed it at me. So I was done in the store. I really wish I’d had some merchandise to throw down to the ground. Asshole. Anyway, I got a picture of the stuff anyway. I’m sorry, it was a terrible error and I had to document it. And this picture was taken before the asshole yelled at me:

WTF??
See the error?

– The BROWN LINE being delayed! Sooo delayed!!! Ack!
– No orbage action on the ghost tour so much this time around. πŸ™
– Flights back to Columbus being delayed like WHOA.
– Time went WAY too quickly. The weekend sped by.

Scandals:
– Bizzy and I using the bathroom together not once, but TWICE.
– Being hit on outside The Clark Bar.
– Bizzy scandalizing random statues and sculptures:

Come here, loverboy...

– Bizzy scandalizing ME:
Happy Strawberry

Click here for more (not necessarily scandalous) pics.

Okay, I’m falling asleep here, so I’m gonna go. But yeah… Chicago was an amazing time. It went way too quicly.

‘Til next time!

Big Update!! (Pictures)

It’s been a long time since I’ve done a proper update. I’ve been busy, or out of town, or some combination of the two. Good times, great oldies, right? πŸ™‚

On May 9 – I went to Kenneth’s and saw Cameron (code word for “I got my hair done by the best hairdresser ever”). I love my hairdresser. He’s the cutest thing ever and sooo funny. I love talking to him. Plus, he did a supurb job on my hair:

New Hair Again
This is even after it was windblown! πŸ™‚

May 10 – took an insanely early flight and got to Vegas a bit after 9am. Didn’t check in to the Monte Carlo until a lot later, though. Visited the most ghastly Wal*mart ever. Ugh. I hate that store even more now, even though they have cute dresses. Finally checked in, got a bit settled (meaning: hooked up the internet and checked email), then headed out to the Strip. Saw the Bellagio fountains, ate good food, went to M&M World, shopped a bit. Ate dinner, then headed back out. Bellagio fountains and Paris Eifel Tower at night oh lovely….
