I have an email box that is 16 messages deep. I will get to you guys as soon as possible–I should have a bit more time next week as Aidan will be out of town and so far the only night I’m busy is Tuesday night (The Grove) and maybe Monday night (Grove prep). πŸ™‚

YAY catch up time!

Unspoken Expectations

**disclaimer**
This not directed at any particular person or situation, but is a general observation of my life, things I’m realizing, and things I need to change for my sake.

Unspoken Expectations. They trip so many people up. I am the victim of them, I have been the perpretrator of them. I *am* the perpetrator of them.

When someone has expectations of someone else (and we all do, admit it), they are inevitably, at some point, going to get let down. Because people are human and they’re going to screw up. That’s just how we are. Everyone has a threshold of how much disappointment they can take, how many times they will forgive before letting go and moving on. Some people may just hold the hurt in, letting the resentment build before something small sets them off. < --I'm guilty of that one! Others have this amazing ability to let everything roll off of their backs because they have expect so little of others. And some get hurt very, very deeply by the smallest things because their expectations are so high. <--Guilty of that one too. I'm trying to find the happy medium between the "no expectations" thing and the "way too high expectations" thing. I'm tired of being hurt over things that are probably not big deals and definitely no one's intention to be rude or disrespectful. I probably don't have a right to expect anything from anyone if I don't communicate things to those people. I do get hurt every single time, though, and I know it's only my fault. Unfortunately, a lot of damage has been done and I'm quite used to being let down. That doesn't mean it hurts any less, even when I know it's my fault. But I'm used to it, yes. I've heard too much silence in the midst of my crying out too many times not to be used to it. It's really surprising to me when someone goes the extra mile for me--it's really great and I am eternally grateful. Even when someone goes an inch for me. The smallest things can cheer me up. A stranger holding a door for me, a smile and a hug from a baby, getting a random card in the mail. Or even something really simple like a txt message or an IM. Often I feel guilty because I want to do so much for people but never seem to have the time or money to do what I want. I want to spend hours with my friends for days and days--I want to give them all special gifts, I want to connect to people all the time, but real life trumps that. I work all day (and update my LJ on breaks), do errands after work til about 730ish, then there is Aidan to tend to. And family. So I have to pick and choose. Unfortunately, those that are more aggressive about contacting me have a better chance to getting with me for lots of reasons: 1. Fear of rejection. 2. Methods. I'm not a "call someone 'let's go do something'" kind of girl. I'm a "let's exchange some emails or txt messages or IMs, make some plans and meet somewhere in a few days" kind of a girl. 3. Past experiences. 4. INSECURITY. 5. I'm definitely more of a reactor than an actor. For example, if someone calls me, I'll try to get back to him or her as soon as I can (usually through email rather than a phone call, though). But I very rarely call. I can barely bring myself to call and order a darn pizza. I used to love phones back in the day--now the ringing kind of grates on my nerves (thanks to the telemarketing boom back in the day. Okay, who am I kidding? It was all those darn bill collectors back in 1997. Because of that stage in my life, I've gone off phones quite a lot.) 6. I can be plain ole forgetful, so honestly, if it's not sitting in my inbox and definitely if it's not in my planner, I'm probably not going to remember. Nothing personal, I just need things to be in writing for me to get it. 7. Focus. Even though I have the ability to multi-task, I do much better when I have one thing to focus on at a time. Which sucks because sometimes other things suffer because of that. I am a perpetually guilty, kind of flaky, more-than-slightly scatterbrained girl who is not always going to do things right. This girl doesn't always know what's expected of her. And because of that, she seems to let people down left and right even when she has no idea that she's doing so. And that breaks her heart. She hates to hurt people (well, unless they've hurt her first but we're not even going to go there...) How many times have I been "burned" at work because a boss wanted me to do something or especially BE a certain way but never communicated it to me? Or worse, the expectations changed but I wasn't made aware of it. How many times have I felt deeply offended because I invited someone somewhere and never got a response; but maybe I didn't ask for a response and I didn't ask for one in a specified time frame? And I've lost count of the times I felt like my opinions and efforts were worthless because I sent along an article or a link or something that I thought someone would be interested in only to never hear a peep from that person. I never told anyone that's what I wanted. I NEED to be acknowledged. It's a character flaw, but it's MY character flaw. It's been there all my life. I'm not perfect. I like to do things for people, but I also like for them to say something to me about it. Even if I do get embarrassed when (some) people gush, I make a mental note to do even more special things for that person because I know that person appreciates my efforts. It's truly a joy to make someone else happy. Because of that, I need to know how I affect you. I need to know if the little things I’m doing are making you feel loved. Because if they aren’t, then I’m wasting time and resources and that isn’t fair to either of us.

But you know what? Maybe even when expectations have been communicated, we have to realize that people are still going to screw up. We’re going to get tired. We’re going to get busy. We’re going to get stressed, sick, hurt. We’re going to get confused and not know the right things to say. But as a Christian, I am kind of called to turn the other cheek a lot, a lot. So I try to. And yet, I feel like if *I* do any of those things listed above, then I’m perpetually evil and a bad person, that I don’t deserve friends, my job, any good things. Flawed thinking perhaps because I am extra, extra hard on myself. Or maybe it is the truth. I don’t know anymore.

Quick Update, then BED!

Firewall issues. That’s what was keeping AIM and AOL from working. Right now I have no firewall, but I’ll put it back on to see if I get kicked out again in a second. WEIRD.

Good things about Thursday, May 31, 2005:
– I got to talk to Rob AND he came over and brought dinner. ROB IS AWESOME! I <3 my brother!
– Had breakfast with LaToya. Good times.
– Sunshine!
– One of my co-workers brought in his 4-month old triplets. What adorable and sweet little girls they are!!!
– Aidan took a long nap and was totally mellow all evening. Yes, I’m going to love summer, when he can play outside all day and get worn out. πŸ˜€
– I GOT CHOCODILES FROM AIMZY hunan omgLOLwows0rZ!!1111oneone. And yes, they are soo yummy–all I’ve dreamed of. I ate one and put the others in the freezer. Mmm. It’s like a Hoho and a Twinkie all in one. Yummmmmm.

Slightly irritating things about Thursday, May 31, 2005:
– It wasn’t Friday yet.
– AIM and AOL woes.
– I forgot to do Yoga.

(Firewall is back on. So far, so good.)

Wednesday was a beautiful day. The weather was glorious. I love driving when the weather is nice. Craig had dinner with the fam at Bon Vie. Yummmmy food. So unbelievably yummy. Picked up another one of those Western shirts that are on sale at Aeropostale. They’re all so cute and they all look so good on me. πŸ˜‰

Sent off a few surprises in the mail today. I still have so many I want to do, though!

Went down to NAA at work today to pick up a few things and get some water. There was a Lancome table there. The ladies went crazy trying makeups on me–they kept telling me how much they liked my complexion. I got a lot of compliments. πŸ™‚

Question of the day: Will Georgia Nicolson ever grow up? I am halfway done with “Away Laughing On A Fast Camel” and I must admit, the book has me cracking up. But for some reason, I thought she was still 14 because of how she acts instead of 16. I know she aged, but for some reason, I thought she was perpetually 14 just like how the girls in The Babysitter’s Club books are perpetually 13. It’s so weird–those books (The BSC ones) came out in 1986 or something. I was 12 they were all 12. We all turned 13 together. Then they kept staying 13. That is just bizarro.

I need to play Boggle, finish my Chocodile ( heehee, Aimzy!) and go to bed.

I’m so glad the weekend is almost here!!!!!!!!

A Perfectly Pointless Potluck Entry

I am no longer allowing myself to go to Barnes and Noble without supervision. I tend to have a severe lack of self-control when I’m in there. I LOVE books, guys. And around every corner I find one, two, or three more that I want. Last night, I picked up:

Ten Minute Yoga for Flexibility & Focus (from the Bargin Bin)
Away Laughing on a Fast Camel: Even More Confessions of Georgia Nicolson
Webster’s New World Power Vocabulary vol. 2 (from Bargin Bin)
Angry Little Girls.

I WANT THIS: The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language. Drooooool. Call me sad if you want, but I love dictionaries. LOVE.THEM.

(I used to hate them in 3rd grade–I’m sure my teacher would be shocked to see the word buff I’ve become.)

I’d actually love one of those dictionaries that are so large they have to have their own stands. Like the ones at the library. Whoa.

OR THIS: Twenty Volume Oxford English Dictionary set. $1,350.00!!!! Sacre bleu & Mon Dieu!!!!

Went to Target yesterday and went a little bit crazy. I got a Sonicare Toothbrush and whoa. I love it. πŸ™‚ I used a sonic toothbrush years and years ago before they even became “trendy,” and I loved it then. But the company stopped making them, and it got to the point where it would never hold a charge anymore, so no more sonic toothbrush for me. Until last night! YAY!

I’m hungry.

OOoooOooo! It’s supposed to be such a pretty day today!! Temps in the 70s, sunshine! πŸ™‚ My favorite kind of weather! Ooo, Spring please hurry. I am so sick of the winter and cold and greys. I’m ready for nice weather and parties and cookouts (yummy hamburgers on a grill!) and parks, driving barefoot, game nights, and fun, fun, fun!

(Plus, Chris got a big a$$ bonus so we’re finally getting air conditioning! PARTY-TIME!!!)

So UNFOCUSED! Mmyeah, can you say SPRING FEVER??!?!??!

I should get new glasses. I love my drill mounts but they are a right pain in the arse to maintain. They loosen way too often.

And if I want a job in Communication, I’m going to have to leave Nationwide. I’ve lost count of all the jobs I’ve applied for and gotten rejected every single bloody time. If they’d just INTERVIEW me they could see…but they keep yanking in people off the streets. Grrrrrrr. How can someone off the street know more about the company than someone who’s worked here for SIX YEARS?

I know what it is. They see “Administrative Secretary” and immediately think “she’s stupid.” I don’t know why I even bother, here. Secretaries get no love, no respect. So, I’m going to have to keep looking elsewhere.

Everyone keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I am ripe, absolutely RIPE for a new career; one that is closer to my passion of editing/proofreading/writing.

Switching gears…

Have you ever had a feeling, unexplained, that something yummy and exciting was going to happen? I’m getting that feeling now. It’s rare; this blind optimism, this anticipation and tingly hope. I wonder if it’s because it’s sunny and warm outside? Or maybe because I’m wearing lots of pink today? Or perhaps it’s because I’m finally starting to feel more normal and less sick!! I feel like I have energy for days. IT’S GREAT! πŸ˜€

I almost broke down and bought one of those “Gossip Girl” books, but decided against it because I prefer first-person told stories over third-person told stories, especially in YA novels. Then I almost bought Broken China, and I think I still might, actually.

Has anyone read those A-List books? What do you think?

Ack. My reading list is growing quicker than my income. Methinks it’s time to head to the library again. Reserve and self-checkout is a beautiful thing. Quick, painless, and I come away with BOOKS!!!!! πŸ˜€

Deb
You are Deb and you could drink whole milk if you

Which Napoleon Dynamite character are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

Bahahaha! πŸ™‚ I like Deb. And I use Caboodles. πŸ˜‰

Some Randomness Before Bed

So, I found a ton of CDs to rip to my MP3 library, and I was all excited about putting them into my iPod–silly me forgot the adapter at work! D’oh! So I’ll have to do it tomorrow. I’ll just make a playlist of music to add so I’ll remember which songs I want. I LOVE being able to play it in my car.

I thought I’d lost my wallet, but I had a gut feeling it was safe, and sure enough, I found it hiding under the seat in my car when I got home today.

Aidan is a MOODY son-of-bananagirl. And he is so mean when he wakes up from his naps. Lordy. I wonder where he got that from?

Had pizza for dinner. Homemade and yummy. :ΓΎ

See, I do surveys for all sorts of marketing research companies. Most of it is volunteer, but it’s really cool because sometimes I get to sample new products and test them out and such, and sometimes I get paid for them too, or win contests. I was doing a survey tonight and came across this question:

Um, BAHAHAHA?

I got free heart-shaped Postits in the mail today. Tres cute!! πŸ˜€

I only have one more Georgia Nicolson book to read! AND I’ve begun reading the 3rd Sisterhood/Pants book.

I love Young Adult novels.

Bedtime by 10:30. Can you dig it? I’m SURE gonna try. πŸ™‚
