Um. I tried to put 60¢ in the vending machine to get out a Diet Mountain Dew and the machine happily ate 50¢ before I wised up and decided not to give it anything else. I guess the self-stick notes indicating that it had stolen $1.10 from two other people should given me some sort of indication to stay away, but as I said, I am caffeine deprived. So now I’m drinking Dr. Pepper (compliments of John), which is bad on three levels. First, it’s pop (I know, I know, I was going to drink Mountain Dew which is pop, but somehow it doesn’t seem as big of an offense as brown pop). Second, it’s brown. I tend to avoid brown pop because I don’t like it as much. Third, it has 150 calories. *sigh*

A week ago, I put in 60¢, selected a Diet Mountain Dew, and got a regular Sprite.

ZB is switching vending companies in about five weeks. Thank goodness.

Today might be the day I finish 100 books for the year!! I just got the latest Au Pairs novel by Melissa de la Cruz. It’s called Crazy Hot. Her 2nd Blue Bloods book (Masquerade) is at home as well. It kind of drives me nuts when an author comes out with 2 or more books in the same month. She and Meg Cabot do it all the time. All I have to say is thank God for Columbus Metropolitan Libraries. I’d never be able to read all the books I want to read if I had to buy them all. There’s no way I could afford it. But the teen selection at my library is amazing, and what they don’t have at the branch I go to most often, I can reserve. Now I’m just waiting for Confessions, the next book in the Private series. I’m #1 on the reserve list (for that and some other things too, yay). I’m going to have to take the next few weeks and go into a reading frenzy again—there are tons I want to read.

Oooh! My friend Elizabeth’s cat had seven kittens yesterday morning! Last night, I got to see them and hold them. Mom was very gracious and sweet and very generous, letting us hold her little babies. I’ve never seen kittens that tiny before, and their little squeaks! Oh my gosh!! So freakin’ adorable! If Elizabeth’s around tonight, I’m going to take Aidan to see the kittens. I think he’ll love seeing them.

Awwwww.

What’s frustrating is that I had to get new jeans last night because most of mine just feel icky anymore. I tried on the 28″ waist and they were way too big. I’m wearing the 27″ waist right now. They felt fine early this morning and last night when I was trying them on. Now they’re binding. I know exactly why, too, and I hate it. 🙁 I don’t know if anything will fix this problem, outside of surgery or starving myself, neither which I want to particularly do, although I’m not going to lie. If I could afford lypo and a tummy tuck, I’d do it in a heartbeat. That’s the only thing on my body that I am so very unhappy with.

But whatever. It’s not going away no matter what I do. I have genetics and a past c-section to thank for that.

Yeah, my mood is kind of weird if you haven’t guessed. So is the music I’m listening to.

‘Til next time.

CHICAGO!

Spent another weekend in awesome Chicago with awesome adamselzer. The weather was still cooler than I would have liked (but much better than the 2º F foolishness that was going on the last time I was there), but I had a good time anyway. I got to eat Chicago-style hotdogs and duck fat fries at Hot Doug’s, I went on Ken’s Weird Chicago tour (I’d only been on Adam’s prior, and it was when it was brand new), got freaked the hell out in the Liar’s Club (I feel like I got freaked out in there the first time), ran into Hector from the Chicago Hauntings tour—first at Ft. Dearborn (in all fairness, Adam and I did stage that) and also at the site of the Eastland Disaster—and well, had a great time all weekend, really.

I got time to act like a total tourist and to take lots of pictures, so here goes:

Today was kind of a neat day. Work didn’t take too terribly long for one thing, and I found out that I can reserve books at Borders online for store pick up. I picked up Queen Bees & Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman. That book is the basis for my newest favorite movie Mean Girls. It’s SO GOOD. Just a lot of insight into the world of cliques in high school and middle school. Defintely research for my books.

While I was at Borders, I came across a bunch of new books that I wanted to read, but couldn’t really afford. (FYI, Mother’s Day is coming up, so if you’re feeling particularly expansive and want to get something for a certain mommy named Ronni, gift cards to bookstores, please!). I went to the library and they had all but ONE of the books I want to read. I was plucking from the shelves left and right.

crimsonghost_oh has been spoiling me. First thing is that he bought me a new iPod. You guys may have read about me complaining about my old one and how it holds a charge for about three minutes. So, he got me a new one. Even though it holds 30 gigs of stuff, I am still being selective about what goes on there. I don’t want to spend all my time fast forwarding. I also dig the photo feature. It’s like a mini photo album! And it’s SO NICE not to have to worry about the thing quitting on me before I get the headphones to my ears.

Then he gave me his Best Buy Reward Zone certificates ($10), so I got I Spy Mystery. Cause I love I Spy, and I can’t wait to play it with Aidan.

I realized a bunch of work people—the cool ones—are on My Space. Good times.

Yesterday, Heather was telling me about how skinny I was and how good I look. 🙂 That made me feel good. I have this particular shirt that’s incredibly flattering and I was wearing it yesterday. The funny thing is that I got the shirt years ago on clearance. I believe I was shopping with itskels when I got it.

I read The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick. It’s a 500 page book, but I read it in an hour. It’s such a cool book because a lot of it is told in pictures rather than words. It was a neat story, made me tear up at the end. I got to meet Brian in February at the Children’s Literature Breakfast. I didn’t get a picture with him, but adamselzer did:

Two Authors

On Monday, I went to Bauer Street to get more of my stuff. Aidan broke my Mickey Mouse anniversary clock—just the dome, but still. My mommy got that for me for Christmas one year. I got a lot of clothes. I opened a suitcase that had been packed the whole time I lived there. Inside were several bikinis. Man, I remember when I used to wear bikinis. I had a silver one, a pink leather one, and loads of others.

Myrtle Beach 1998

So um… how about that hair? LOL. Yeah, cannot wear that ever again, ha haha. I did find a tankini that I might be able to pull off, though.

I found some other neat stuff too, like little notebooks, and purses with hidden treasures in them.

From Avril Lavinge’s new CD, I like the songs:

  • Hot
  • Everything Back But You
  • Keep Holding On
  • I Don’t Have to Try
  • Girlfriend

However, the explicit CD just sounds like the “explicit” words were overdubbed in, and not very well. Now, I did “borrow” a copy from , so I’m not sure if it’s SUPPOSED to sound like it’s badly overdubbed, or what. Does anyone have the explicit version of The Best Damn Thing? Can you give some insight? I have the clean version too, but that one’s not as much fun to sing along with.

Some people I used to hang out with a lot are having a mock wedding this weekend, for the sake of photographs. (I guess they didn’t get pictures at their first wedding). They picked Aidan to be the “ringbearer” and got him a tux. Last night was his final fitting. Chris sent me a camera phone picture:

Isn’t he too cute???

survey time!

Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve written. Ten days or so? Hmmm. Well, I’ve learned some things in the time I’ve been away:

  • Facebook can be addictive.
  • Death Cab for Cutie is amazing. I’ve totally been listening and enjoying their music lately, and I’ve been collecting every album I can get my hands on.
  • People who shouldn’t matter can still hurt my feelings. CRAP. 🙁
  • I might be over my head with the number of books I have out of the library at the moment.
  • Why, yes the temperature CAN be 82ºF one day and 32ºF the next day.
  • It is not a good idea to have my own music playing while browsing My Space.

The furnace motor in my apartment was broken over the weekend. Luckily, I was away for most of it, but my place was still cold. 55º inside, while it’s 32º outside is not fun. Thankfully, I have an electric blanket and a space heater. Both kept me sufficiently toasty for the time I was here. Plus, the people in the rental office lent me a big ass space heater to use in lieu of the real heater.

I was supposed to do my taxes today, but I think I’m going to wait until tomorrow. Anyway, they’re already done. I just have to mail them. And the big ass check they don’t deserve.

Saturday, Aidan dyed his first Easter eggs. See?

Coloring Easter Eggs

Yeah, he’s cute. 🙂

I love this picture too:

Little Profile

And oh my, but I’ve found a boy who I have a crush on moreso than Harry Potter. Not that I had a crush on Harry before, but that’s beside the point. This new guy…his name is Leven Thumps, and he stars in the Leven Thumps book series, the first of which is called Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo. The descriptions are vivid and laugh-out-loud funny. The adventure is wild and unlike anything I’ve ever read before. The book is so original. Of course, I don’t read much fantasy, so I may be well off. At any rate, I’m certainly enjoying this! I’ve already put the sequel on reserve at the library. I’ve about 2/3rds of the way through the first one, and it is amazing. The author, Obert Skye, is extremely talented, and even his bio in the back of the book is funny. Get a sneak peak here: http://www.leventhumps.com

And while I am making recommendations, everyone should read Holes by Louis Sachar, if you haven’t already. I’d read it last year, and I saw the end of the movie earlier this year, but I decided to read it again today. I tore through it in two hours. That book is awesome, and Laurie Halse Anderson (halseanderson) and Laura Ruby approved. 🙂

Speaking of authors, Sarah Dessen (writergrl) is pregnant!!!!! Eeeeek!!! AND she just finished a book whicih will be out this time next year! YAY for her.

My goal was to read 100 new books in 2007. As of today, I’ve read 71. I’ll probably finish Fix by Lesllie Margolis tonight, and Backstage Pass by Gaby Triana tomorrow. Plus, I’ll finish Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo during work (it IS a work-related book). I need to get on the ball. Due dates are coming up, my stack is HIGH! Ah, reading. I love it so.

Laurie Halse Anderson took a guilt-free weekend recently, and spent the weekend reading. She read four books, so she’s a fast reader like I am. I have a guilt-free weekend coming up and I am SO looking forward to it. I plan to read, write, sleep, watch movies, watch the OC on DVD, and repeat the process all over again. It’s gonna be SWEET.

‘Til next time.
