Spring = Allergies

This year I am dealing with something I haven’t had to deal with since I was a little girl.

My left eye is tearing like crazy. I mean, there is a tear constantly running down my cheek, and people keep asking me if I’m OK. I’m kicking around a couple theories regarding this.

1. I need new glasses. I haven’t had an eye exam or gotten new glasses in two or three years. I know that my eyes have worsened. My contact power was -2.5 a few years ago. I never got my glasses calibrated to that, and it’s possible that I need to get more glasses. However, a lack of health insurance and a job prevents me from getting an eye exam and/or new glasses for at least a few months. But the reason I am throwing this theory out there is because my eye teared up like this all the time when I was little until I’d started wearing glasses. The last time I remember this was when I was eight or nine! And it certainly wasn’t this frequent.

2. I am experiencing allergies. Every season, I get some weird allergic reaction. ONe year, it was an incredibly itchy throat. Not scratchy, but itchy, and itchy eyes too. So it’s quite possible this is allergies, and it would make sense that it’s a new type of allergy because I haven’t lived in Chicago in spring before. Plus, my nose is kind of runny and I feel allergy-ish.

So, I just keep a tissue handy and hope for the best. :O

Settling In

It’s been a while since I have posted. (And Adam too, for that matter!) It’s been weeks of getting settled in, looking for a job, and trying to figure out my way around here. Things are certainly interesting. The cost of living is definitely higher. I see it mostly in food and fuel, but I guess that’s being felt by everyone everywhere. Gas here hovers at around $4 a gallon, so I try not to drive anywhere except the grocery store. Thank God Chicago has a decent public transportation system. Well, the trains are cool, at least. The buses–I’ve never been a fan of buses and here, give me the train any day.

We do most of our grocery shopping at ALDI. If I am DESPERATE for some Hunts tomato sauce or Doritos or Quaker granola bars, I’ll go to Bari or CVS. The grocery stores here are not that cheap, but if you catch a sale on the things you need, it can work out great. The 25 oz. box of Froot Loops I got for $4 at Jewel-Osco? SCORE. The 65 cents for a can of Hunts tomato sauce? Unscore. :(

The job search is hard. On the one hand, I like taking my time waking up in the mornings, and having the day to do whatever. On the other hand, I don’t like not making a lot of money. Bills don’t stop just because you don’t have a job, and the market is soooo competitive and discouraging at times. In a few weeks, I’ll be poised to seriously panic.

So, I think once I am working, I will feel more at home. Plus, in a month, Aidan comes for the summer, which should be fun and interesting.

All in all, I’m getting there.

Ow

Today I woke up with one of those “knock you on your tail + nausea + eye twitching + sensitivity to light + halo” migraines. I slept 80% of the day away because even sitting upright made me want to hurl.

(One good thing about not working full-time is that I didn’t have to worry about taking off from work to rest.)

I took two Darvocent and eight ibuprofen today, and now I’m hoping to knock the rest of this out tonight as I sleep. Now I have light sensitivity, a very mild ache, and nausea. Blah. But much better than most of today. I was even too sick to read Sarah Dessen’s new book. You KNOW that has to be rough, if I can’t even read!

Anyway, I’m off to bed again. Got a busy weekend ahead, must be healthy for it.

Wiii! :D

We’ve got a Wii! YAY! Adam went out this morning on his bike just to see, and the 2nd place he checked had some in stock!

I haven’t had a chance to play it yet, I had to take off shortly after Adam brought it home, but I did make a Mii. 🙂 And when he goes on his tour tonight, it’ll be ALL ME.

I’m excited! A new toy, YAY!

But first, I need FOOD!

PS LJ friends with Wiis, send me your Wii Code!
