Slighty Drugged, But That’s Okay

Took a Tylenol PM to get me relaxed so I’d fall asleep tonight, and not lie awake worrying and stuff like that.

Just over 19 days until Christmas. Man, I can’t believe I’m counting down. What a dork I am.

Watched some of Newsies today. I used to have such a crush on Aaron Lohr (who played Mush). He’s grown up to be pretty hot still, but the thing is–he looks like how Aidan might look in 12 years, and that’s just creepy. Needless to say, my crush on Aaron Lohr is now gone, but it is SO MUCH FUN to sing and dance to the musical numbers in that movie. I love King of New York and Seize the Day.

Work is getting busy, finally. Handwriting stuff piles up quickly, plus I’m helping J with her leveled readers. I get to do one on Hull House soon! Hull House is the scariest point on the ghost tour in Chicago, so I am very interested in doing the leveled reader on that. In addition, I will be writing the style guide for the English-Language Learner teacher pages for Handwriting. Me, writing a style guide!! I am nervous–I’ve never written one before, and this will be for REAL BOOKS that teachers will use, so yes, I’m a little bit nervous, but excited to take on the challenge. Eeee!

Read about Leukemia in the leveled reader I worked on today. There was a picture of the sweetest little red-head boy. He looked so … resigned. He had curly hair, soft, big curls, and this beautiful little face. He reminded me so much of Aidan, and I just started praying and thanking God that Aidan was healthy and didn’t have to suffer like that adorable little boy. I pray that Aidan will ALWAYS be healthy. My heart broke for that sweet child.

Anyway…OH MY GOD??!? Adam Brody is back on the market?? HOT DAMN!!!! But wow, three years. And they still have to work together! Awkward, much??! Well, maybe not. If they’re still friends, it could be fine.

I’m hungry. I had a VERY small dinner and I should probably eat something else, but it’s so late already. Plus, I don’t even know what I want, besides things that’ll take HOURS to cook. I’m just not feeling that patient.

I must clean tomorrow. Dishes, Lucy’s litter box, take out the trash. Yippee.

Drivers in Columbus. Especially as you near the suburbs. DRIVE, DAMMIT! That’s what I yell at them in my car! Everyone is so overly cautious here, and it doesn’t even make a difference because they still get into 328947389 accidents! I can’t believe I live in a city where so many people insist on driving at least 5 MPH below the speed limit. Usually, it’s 10 or so. Yesterday evening, I ended up behind a yahoo who was going 35 in a 50, nothing in front of him/her, and the person STILL kept braking every few hundred or so feet. What the hell?? I finally got around that person. There was NO REASON for this person to be driving that slowly, except to aggravate ME. That HAS to be it.

And… I keep getting stuck behind the slow pokes when I am on the freeway, and when I am in positions where I can’t change lanes. For example, the lane to pass is chock full of cars, or even more common, I need to be in the lane I’m in because my exit is coming up and there is a good chance that I’d miss it while trying to pass the slow pokes.

Oh well. C’est la vie, I suppose. Ooh, Bon Vie sounds yummy right now…. okay, just about anything involving chicken and/or rice and/or green beans sounds good right about now. But nah, too late.

You know what? I have some amazing friends. Just thought I’d mention that. That way, I can remember it too.

Bedtime for me. Ciao! πŸ™‚

Saturday Morning

Current Temp is 28ΒΊF. It’s finally starting to feel like Christmas time. I get excited about the cold temps for about two weeks, then once January hits, I’m done. Ha. I went outside for a second to get some Christmas CDs out of my car. Now I am uploading them to my computer to make holiday mixes. YAY.

I finally built my book case last night. I always forget about how much I HATE to build them when I am buying them, but now that it’s built, it looks awesome. And all the foiled sides are facing the correct direction, for once. Not to say that I didn’t have to pull out a couple of screws and fix a shelf last night….

Still sick. Aidan woke up at 8:30 this morning. I was so NOT into waking up. He let me “rest” for another hour, but I’m still beat, and he’s a ball of energy. Eep. I took a Nyquil at midnight to help me sleep–and it’s not worn off completely yet. I’d LOVE to curl up and go back to bed, but if I do, Aidan will get me back out of bed. Speaking of Aidan, he just said “oh, for Heaven’s sake.” Oh sheesh. Why are children so hyper when their mommies are sick?

I just learned that Aidan enjoys drinking hot water.

I have gifts picked out for people–I just need to get paid so I can actually buy them. I’m excited about wrapping presents, as usual. Tee-hee.

And I got a very nice letter from starrlyte!! I love long letters, and I’m excited to write back! πŸ™‚

I think I am going to make some wild berry muffins in a bit. And have them with bacon. Usually, if I tell Aidan they’re “cupcakes,” he’ll eat one.

Now, if only I could realistically climb back into bed for a few hours…. heh.

Aidan wants to “cuddle wuddle.” Later!

Potluck

I can’t stop playing the Hidden Pictures game on the Highlights for Kids website. Especially the ones with all the cool sound effects. Sad, huh?

I went home early yesterday and stayed home today. I slept a lot, and woke up a bunch of times today barely able to swallow because my throat and ears hurt so much. Things are still not ideal, but at least the rest of me feels close to normal. Or maybe I still AM sick, because I did the dishes, and you know how I hate to do dishes.

Drinking TONS of orange juice. I have to go back to work tomorrow, feeling better or not, so I hope the OJ helps. At any rate, I will be going to bed pretty early tonight.

Just went through and read all of my Sarah Dessen books. Not in order again, but close enough together that I began recognizing patterns and other characters making cameos. I LOVE when authors do that. But her main characters all attend at least one party, there is always a group playing quarters or cards, and people drinking (ew) beer. I got excited once I recognized places and characters and things all interchanging. Good times. I hope I get to publish more than one book so I can do that, too. Who am I kidding? I hope to publish ONE book. *sigh*

Anyway, I’m not going to sit here getting all depressed and whatnot. It’s probably time for me to eat some dinner, curl up with a good book, and make an early night of it, huh? πŸ™‚ ‘Til next time.

Life’s been pleasantly busy. Spent the weekend in Philadelphia. Saw a WONDERFUL Bob Dylan show. Got to hang out with Adam, which is always good. Ate at a diner, saw the Liberty Bell. From the car, anyway. It was fun.

Work is going well. I enjoy copy editing. It’s hard to do when I am tired, though. I have a hard time falling asleep. My mind is always racing. Things to do, stuff like that.

Hard to believe that it’s the Holidays. Just seems like I was at the Grand Canyon, and that was over six months ago.

Christmas this year will be quite different. I’ll swing it, though. I’m excited to shop for people, even though I have to be quite frugal. I’m finally starting to get excited about the holidays. Before, it wasn’t unexcitement–it was simply unawareness. Like, I knew time was passing, but I didn’t realize how much time was passing, and how quickly. I mean, Thanksgiving is in a few days. That’s insane. But I’m ready for my mom’s dressing, greens, mac & cheese and gravy over the whole thing. Mmmm. It’s been months since I’ve had that. Such a yummy, yummy meal. I will eat loads of it, and bring loads of it home.

And eat more of it. Oh yes.

I’m just being random here, really. Thinking a lot about things. About how crazy this year has been. My life is so drastically different than it was last year, and I’m pretty content with it. Surprised, but content. If a gypsy had appeared a year ago and told me this is where I’d be, I’m not sure how I would have reacted.

But none appeared, so that whole paragraph is moot. Ha.

Okay, enough. Later.

Philly & Stuff

Just to start off with something kinda silly:

Got at b3co.com!

WHAT? I’ve only ridden THREE? This means I need to TRAVEL more. I mean, okay, I did just have a sweet ass one-day trip to Philadelphia (more on that later), but you know me. Perpetual wanderlust. Chicago in February, here I come. I’ve been invited to Atlanta for New Year’s (not sure if I’ll be able to afford that, though).

Oh yes, how could I FORGET all the years I’ve ridden the lovely (not) COTA of Columbus, Ohio? But they don’t have COTA on their nifty little site, so yeah. Never mind, then.

This weekend, I went to Philadelphia partly to catch a Bob Dylan concert and partly to hang out with adamselzer and other friends who enjoy Bob as well. And also, to satisfy some wanderlust, of course. It was cheap, so WHY NOT, right?

I wasn’t sure what to expect, actually. All I know is that I felt pretty brave. My flight landed 30 minutes early! That was a good thing because I had to figure out how to catch the train into the city. THAT part wasn’t hard. The hard part was getting the damn changer to take my money! See, their ticket machines does not accept the new bills, and of course, that’s all I had. There was a change machine next to it, and the stupid thing wouldn’t take my money because there was a fold in the bill. Back up the stairs I went to the ATM to take out a nice, crisp $10 bill (because the other one just wasn’t crisp enough even though it had just come from an ATM, too), and the damn machine finally took it. I ended up with all sorts of $1 coins, some of which I used to pay the $5.50 train fare.

The train showed up and off stepped a conductor, dressed in a conductor’s uniform. He was very patient, answering the repetitve questions of us tourists, but teasing us and saying that only the FIRST question was free. The next would be one million dollars! Just as the train was about to pull off, the conductor shouted “ALL ABOARD!” It was so neat.

Took the train to Center City, a huge convention center that was right by Chinatown, where Adam’s bus would be stopping. We finally found each other and then met up with Adam’s friend Peter Stone Brown, who drove us to the arena to get tickets for the BOB SHOW.

Then there were hiccups. First, they made Pete pay $10 just to park for the box office. The line at the box office was long and SLOW. Come to find out that there was a Cirque de Soleil show going on, that had just begun, and they were only serving customers who were buying tickets for that. They told us to leave. We left. Pete did get his $10 back. Tried to find tickets at Pete’s place on the internet. Bad seats only. Decided to try later. We all walked to the store so Adam could get money and I could get FOOD. I hadn’t eaten all day and was starting to feel faint. We went back, played some Dylan music, and ate lots of snacks. Peter’s an amazing storyteller, and he’s been to over 100 Bob Shows.

More Bob fans showed up, and we headed to get food and then took the subway the arena. By this time, there were no more tickets for sale on the internet. Adam still needed two–one for me, one for him. He yelled it out at JUST the right time, as a guy turned around and said “You need two? I got two.” Now, Adam is a seasoned Dylan-concertgoer himself, so he looked at the seats, and was kind of hedging on buying them. I told him it was up to him. Another guy told him to give them to us. GiVE THEM. “Merry Christmas,” he said. “Enjoy the show!” FREE TICKETS!!! FREE TICKETS! And the seats were great. Lower level, row 9. “Bob bless you,” Adam yelled to the guys as they were walking away. “Bob knows all, Bob sees all. He wouldn’t let us miss a show.”

Bob Dylan started off with a live premier: The Levee’s Gonna Break. My second Dylan concert ever and I got a live premier. Woo!!

Sixteen song set and every one was right on. Again, I loved “Highway 61 Revisted,” “All Along the Watchtower,” and well, everything. I even put up with that “Spirit On The Water” song I’m not fond of. Heh.

The Racounteers opened and they rocked as well. There were old people in the front row who were head banging like crazy.

The only bad thing about the show was the number of people who wouldn’t sit the hell down and shut the eff up. UGH. They were annoying! I’m like “WHY COME TO A CONCERT AND LEAVE 38947985 TIMES DURING THE SHOW??” What the fresh hell are you thinking??? Do you really need a beer RIGHT NOW???? UGH.

The encores of the 21st century don’t really consist of lighters anymore. Oh no, it’s the glow of cell phones now. Prettier and safer, too. I like it. Although a few people did have lighters and they took advantage of the darkness to light cigarettes. Ew. That took a bit of the fun away from the encore. πŸ™

The consensus after the show, for all of us who were there and had met up again, was that this was one of the BEST EVER. And I was there. YEAH!!!

Today consisted of breakfast at a yummy diner/bakery, and then some quick sight-seeing. Pete took us to West Philly, where Adam freaked out over the gorgeous Victorian homes and the Charles Dickens statue in the park. He was happy. I also saw Independence Square, the Liberty Bell (which is a lot smaller than I thought it’d be), and lots of horse-drawn carriages. It’s a beautiful part of the city. There was really no time to stop and take pictures, and I didn’t have my camera on me anyway, so I suppose I’ll have to go back sometime.

Darn.

LOL.

Airport adventures were interesting. Southwest let me take a HUGE bag of 3 oz or smaller liquids through yesterday, but since Adam’s flight was leaving earlier than mine, I went through the AA checkpoint with him so we could hang out til it was time for him to board his plane. They made me take everything out of my bag, saying it was too big, and since Adam didn’t have any toiletries, gave him some of my stuff in a smaller bag and gave me the rest. THEN Adam beeped going through security and had to get searched. But once I’d gotten inside, I didn’t have to go through anymore security once I headed to my own terminal. So I was able to take all the stuff he was holding and put it back in my bag with no problems.

I found out, at least at Philadelphia International, that as long as you have a boarding pass, it didn’t matter which airline or terminal you were supposed to go to, that you can go to any checkpoint and get checked and wait with people. Pretty cool, huh? Surprising, that’s for sure, with all the security restrictions and things these days.

The Burger King at the airport had a broken broiler, so no flame-broiled Whopper, Jr. for me. I had to go with the corned beast sammich I’d originally purchased. And those airport shops are dangerous little tempting traps when you have a lot of money (I ended up spending WAY less that I’d anticipated!) and time to kill before your flight takes off. The Hallmark trapped me, and of course I got a little something for Aidan. πŸ™‚

So, Philly was fun enough. Very interesting experiences, very good food, and of course, the Bob Show was amazing. I had a really good time.

Did you know that today is the 143rd anniversary of the Gettysburg Address? I’ll bet you didn’t. And man, is it already nearly 8pm? Wow does time fly, even when your plane lands 25 minutes ahead of schedule.

But this is a short week! Three days, then FOOD FOOD FOOD! And I plan to start my Christmas shopping! I do, I do, I do! πŸ™‚ YAY. But you know, even though I’m starting to hear Christmas music in some stores and see decorations here and there, it doesn’t really FEEL Christmasy yet. Strange for me, right? I mean, I am always ready in October. But now I’m like “Oh crap. It’s gonna be here before I know it, then little Aidan’s birthday too!” Time is flying.

I think that’s all for now. Til next time!
