Well, THAT Was a Scare!

The Grand Canyon

I was reading an email from SITS about web design, and I decided to pop over to my blog to see if I measured up. (I don’t think I do but I’m not that bothered about it, obviously.) Imagine my surprise when I pulled up my page and saw my header, my sidebars, but no entries or pages. My first thought was that I’d been hacked, and my second thought was “oh well.”

I was bothered by it, but not too terribly bothered by it. I had a backup (of course, the one I’d downloaded didn’t work properly but that’s probably because I didn’t upload it in the right place), and all of my entries are cross posted to Live Journal. So they weren’t lost forever or anything like that. I was just weary, thinking about how much TIME it was going to take to redo everything. I was thinking of moving to blogger, then I thought about wordpress.com, then I got tired and decided to play LEGO Harry Potter for hours and hours. Then I decided to install The Sims and a few expansion packs on the PC. Of course I had to play a bit to test it out.

Then I decided that I was going to scrap everything and start the hell over. Daunting task, but it’s not like I haven’t done it before. But while I was doing that, something told me to check out the databases. There was one in there that was 0mb. I deleted that one because it was obviously useless. There was another from a bulletin board I thought I’d host until I remembered that no one posts on those things anymore. Then I noticed that there was a big one that matched the name of my backup. I noticed there was a button to analyze it, so I did. What a mess. So many things were messed up! I had no idea what it meant, but I knew it wasn’t good. So I did a repair, which took about 10 seconds. Once it was done, I refreshed my site, holding my breath. And all of my entries and pages were back!

I squealed and jumped up and down and woke (and scared the crap out of ) poor Adam to tell him the good news.

So now, things appear to be running OK, except for the hiccups I deal with moving between the PC and the Mac. Some things just act so WEIRD on the PC for some reason. Oh well. Anyway, I’m happy to be back and maybe I can go for another 13 years or more.

Til next time….
