Sunday Stealing (15)

The Meme From Suburbia

I know I’m quite a few days late. I’m catching up on articles in my Google Reader and saw this today and couldn’t resist.

Oh Hi
I think I look sorta scary here. :O
*evil laugh*
1. What were you doing 10 years ago?

I was a new mom. Aidan was just turning one month old. So I was probably rocking him to sleep or something.

2. By this time next year, I …

…will be a certified yoga teacher, a year older, and the mother of an 11 year old! I will have gone to Disney World ten times and will probably be preparing to head out for #11.

3. Do you think the United States will elect a female President in your lifetime? Do you think this would be a good thing?

I sure would like to see it. Truthfully, I thought that would happen before ANYONE of color got into office so….

4. Which fictional, TV show character you would shag anytime?

The Doctor from Doctor Who I think. But only certain incarnations. Or Maybe Captain Jack Harkness. But of course, only if I weren’t already married. 🙂

John Barrowman and Me
I mean HELLO!

5. Who is your greatest enemy?

I am. I get in my own way ALL THE TIME.

6. Tell me about your most recent trip of more than 100 miles?

I went to Cleveland, to visit my mommy for Christmas. 🙂

7. Which do you use more often, the dictionary or the thesaurus?

Dictionary. I love dictionaries.

8. Do you have a nickname? What is it?

My nickname is Ronni. My real name is Ronica.

9. What are you dreading at the moment?

Eh, nothing really.

10. Do you worry that others will judge you from reading some of your answers?

Nope. If they judge me, it’s their thing, not mine.

11. If you find an outfit you love, but the size on the label is larger than you want, do you buy the outfit? Why or why not?

I’ll buy it if it fits and looks awesome.

12. Even the biggest slackers are anal-retentive about something? What are you anal-retentive about?

My music files! I have to have them properly tagged so they look nice in my iTunes! I’ll spend hours getting them right.

13. Out of all the books you read as a child, which one had the biggest influence on how you are today?

Ohh, great question. I think Nothing’s Fair in Fifth Grade, Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret, Sixth Grade Can Really Kill You (But Only If You Let It), Amy and Laura, Little House in the Big Woods, and By The Shores of Silver Lake all had huge impacts on me. And Ramona and Her Mother as well. Plus tons and tons more. (I read a lot when I was little. HECK what do I mean “when I was little”? I still read a lot!)

14. Which Golden Girl would you want to spend a night on the town with?

Oh my God. This is so hard. See, I can see Blanche ditching me for some guy. Sophia is feisty, but I don’t know if I could handle her level of feistiness. Rose would get on my nerves, as much as I love her. So I think it would have to be Dorothy.

15. What is the one product you would never buy in its generic form even if the generic is half the price?

Granola bars. The generic ones always macaroons in them and I don’t like that.

16. How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa?

Who said I ever stopped? 🙂

17. What is the one smell that turns your stomach without fail?

Spoiled anything.

18. If someone holds out a carton of milk to you and asks you to sniff it to see if its spoiled, do you?

Yes. I’m the only one who can tell in my house.

19. You have a completely free day and $2000.00, What are you doing?

Probably transferring the $2000 to my savings account and playing on the computer or reading all day. Or booking a Disney trip. Ha.

20. What is the most used item in your home?

The computers. Hands down. Followed closely by the couch.

Saturday 9: Christmas Carols

I haven’t done a meme in a long time and I felt like doing this Christmas one that came around. Hosted by Sam at Saturday 9!

1.) What’s the first holiday song that comes to mind?
Jingle Bells. First it was the Bing Crosby/Andrews Sisters version, then the Frank Sinatra version.

2.) Are you sending cards (either by postal service or email) this year? If so, have they gone out yet?
Yes and no. I will work on them tomorrow/today.

3.) Can you see any holiday decorations from where you’re answering these questions?
Yep! Mine!

4.) Do you wrap gifts in paper or take the gift bag route?
Both.

5.) The holidays are an important fundraising time for charities. Here’s an opportunity to do a shameless plug for your favorite. What organization or cause do you wish got more support at the holidays, and all year around?
Anything that feeds people who are hungry. Animal shelters. Literacy organizations.

6.) Andy Williams was famous for his family holiday specials. What TV family would you most like to spend Christmas with?
Hmm. Probably the Cosby Family.

7.) The holidays are a big time for travel. Where did you go on your first airplane flight?
Disney World!

8.) Does the weather have an impact on your mood?
Most definitely. When there is a lot of snow and cold and ice, I feel claustrophobic and depressed. When it’s sunny and warm with a light breeze, I feel happy and light.

9.) Snack time! You’re about to make yourself your favorite sandwich. What ingredients do you need?
Two slices of wheat bread, yellow mustard, roast beef. Maybe some raw spinach as well. Yummy!

Dang it, now I’m hungry.

Hello December/Holiday Wish Meme 2012

My favorite time of the year is here again! It’s officially the holiday season! The stores are all decorated and playing Christmas music, ABC Family is doing its 25 Days of Christmas, and people have lights on their homes and trees in the windows. I’m listening to Christmas music, Trader Joe’s has yummy Christmas treats everywhere, and my birthday is in 19 days!

For the 2012 holiday season, I have so much to be excited about and thankful for!

– My awesome Aidan. He’s now nine years old, in fourth grade, and absolutely the best little boy ever. EVER.
– My husband. It’s amazing to have someone so supportive of me, so ready to defend me, and willing to do anything to make me happy. And he puts up with my wackiness, which is no small feat, let me tell ya.
– My families. All of them.
– A trip Disney World in which I got to be in a PARADE!!
– My work study opportunity at Moksha Yoga. I get to do work I love in exchange for what I love. It’s a win-win!
– Teacher training at Moksha Yoga. Oh my goodness, it has been a wild, crazy ride, but you know this already.
– My friends, old and new!
– My Plurk crew. They are hilarious and fun. Love them!
– The abundance and blessings that have been and keep being rained down on us.

It’s now time for the Holiday Wishes Meme. I started doing this in 2006, and I encourage you guys to do it as well.

Step One
– Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered…whatever you’re comfortable with) to your LJ/blog. The post should contain your list of up to 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun (“I’d love a Doctor Who icon that’s just for me”) to medium (“I wish for _____ on DVD”) to really big (“All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.”) The important thing is to make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
– If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it’s your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
– Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your entry, or link to this post (it’ll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two
– Surf around to see who has posted their list. And now here’s the important part: If you see a wish you can grant, and it’s in your heart to do so, make someone’s wish come true. Sometimes someone’s trash is another’s treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don’t want or a gift certificate you won’t use—or even know where you could get someone’s dream purebred Basset Hound for free—do it.
– You needn’t spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn’t to put people out, it’s to provide everyone a chance to be someone else’s holiday elf—to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not—it’s your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just…wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you’ll have the joy of knowing you made someone’s holiday special.

With that said, here are my wishes for 2012.

1. A gift card, or for you to make donations to, DonorsChoose.org. DonorsChoose focuses on education. Teachers ask for classroom project materials. We donate. The kids learn. Most of these schools are high poverty, and the teachers are already doing all they can. Any amount is welcome.

2. Donations to Paws Chicago, the shelter where we got Helena. It’s a cage-free, no-kill shelter, and they are run completely on donations; they receive no city, state, or federal funding. It’s a great place. A shelter situation is stressful for the animals involved, and every animal I came in contact with there was happy and friendly. They have an extensive screening process to make sure you’re aware of your decision and commitment, and if somehow things don’t work out, the animal always has a home at PAWS.

3. Anything from my Amazon wish list.

4. Gift cards to bookstores. I love bookstores. And books. But you already know that.

5. I also wouldn’t mind gift cards to Old Navy, Nordstrom Rack, Target, or Kohl’s.

6. A mailbox FILLED with Christmas cards. I remember the days I’d open my mailbox and find loads and loads of cards. I would barely have a place to display them all. Every year, the number of cards I get dwindles. 🙁 So, I’d love to get tons more cards again. I miss that!
*Comment with your email address if you’re interested in fulfilling this particular wish and I will email you my address.

The things that I’d like your prayers/happy energy for:

1. My mom to be as healthy as possible and to live a long time.

2. My friends and family to be happy, healthy, comfortable, and secure.

3. Myself to be happy, healthy, comfortable, and secure.

4. A mild winter.

Happy Holidays!
It’s December now, the holiday and giving season really is here! YAY!

Now, go download my Christmas Bucket List!!! Also pin it on Pinterest. Share it. Link it to me. It’s my gift to you. 🙂

*** Oh yeah! If you do this meme for yourself, be sure to leave a comment with a link to your post, OK? I want to read your wishes!

Friends who are wishing: Neth * Nashay

Yes. I love classical music.

32. What is the first TV Theme song that pops in your head?
The theme song to Punky Brewster. I still know all the words!

Love them.

40. Do you have an iPod?
I have two. One is a classic from 2007 that no longer really works with headphones (but works fine in our dock player), the other is a silver classic. I got it last fall. Apple was nice enough to replace it for me after the one I bought in 2010 crashed and burned one or two days after my warranty expired.

41. What time do you go to bed?
Too late! Wah.

42. What CD is currently in your CD player?
There isn’t one in there now but I can tell you that the last one was Bon Jovi – Cross Road.

46. What family member/friend lives the farthest from you? Where?
My friend Stephanie Jae lives in London.

47. Do you like hugs?
I LOVE hugs!

48. Last time you had butterflies in your stomach?
Yesterday because I knew I had to do savasana adjustments and I just learned how to do them so I was hoping I wouldn’t mess up. (Someone came up and complimented me after class, so I guess I did OK.)

49. What’s the way people most often mispronounce any part of your name?
It doesn’t happen so much anymore because I introduce myself as Ronni, but when I go by Ronica (my real name), a lot of people think it’s “Veronica” and when I was younger, I often got Roo-NEEK-uh if they hadn’t heard it pronounced (like in a doctor’s office or in a new class with a new teacher). It’s pronounced RAW-ni-kah.

50. Last person you hugged?
Aidan. Although I got a lot of hugs at Moksha–one from Amber, one from Betty, and one from Rachel. <3

Employment Enjoyment

The Employment Enjoyment Meme

1. What kind of work do you do?
I am a freelance copy editor and proofreader.

2. During the course of your lifetime, which job or career has been your favorite or most fulfilling?
Anytime I get the chance to edit materials meant for primary school I get super excited. My most fulfilling work is when I get to make really cool stuff even cooler.

Fruits of My Labor
this was one of my favorite projects.

3. Do you think it’s necessary in your life to have a day-to-day “career” that is meaningful and service-oriented or do you function better in “just a job” with a steady paycheck?
I have to do meaningful work, but I admit that it taks a certain amount of privilege to be able to say that. Any time I’ve worked on a position that was just a “paycheck”, I felt like I was dying inside. When it’s Sunday night and you’re wishing you’d get sick so you can call off? That’s a problem. When you’re crying on the commute home? That’s a problem. But some people don’t have a choice, and I respect that.

4. Was there ever a time in your life when you wanted to stay home with your children instead of working, even if it meant less money in the household?
Yes, especially when Aidan was first born. Now I am fortunate enough to be able to do most of my work from home.

5. Tell us your worst boss story.
Hmm, there was the time I went to leave work and the boss said, “You have five more minutes.” When I showed him the clock on my computer that did NOT indicate I had five more minutes, he reset the clock and made me sit for five more minutes before I could leave.

6. Have your ever been the boss? Do you like this this role?
No. I purposely avoid those types of roles. I’ve been sort of a “leader” in a way, but I feel that’s different from being a boss. And even then I was dragged kicking and screaming into the role.

7. What is your dream occupation?
New York Times Best-Selling author as well as someone who gets to edit awesome fiction.

Here are some pictures from some of my past jobs:

Working the Front Desk
working the front desk at the stadium scholarship dorm at ohio state university
(yes, i actually lived in the stadium. it was awesome.
this gave me the opportunity to live in less expensive housing.
it actually should’ve been called the stadium workstudy dorm.)

First Day
first day working as a desk attendent at the apt i lived in from 1995-1998

Another Work Picture
i took pictures of myself during breaks when i worked at Nationwide
