My Vacation (Pictures)/Lessons Learned

Just got back from another vacation. Not as amazing as Disney, but it did have its good points:

– I got to see very pretty mountains!
– I got to SHOP (very important). πŸ™‚
– Stores on the Cherokee American Indian Reservation are awesome. I got the cutest hat!

Here are some pictures:

Me, in Gatlinburg. Check out the hat! πŸ™‚

OMFG.

Not sure if I want to go back. It was a cool one-time thing, but honestly, I prefer Disney. πŸ™‚

(Besides, the internet connection there was HORRIBLE. It was dial-up, but horrendous. VERY VERY VERY SLOW. Ugh. The one in Disney was at least stable!)

I learned a few things while I was there. Not pretty, either.

– People will use you ’til you’re sucked dry. The sad thing is that they either don’t know they’re doing it, or they do, see how it affects you, and still don’t give a shit. I’m not sure which is worse.
– Most care only about themselves and their own agendas. And if it means hurting someone (namely me) to get that agenda solved, then so be it.
– People lie to themselves. Ridiculously.

I think it’s time for me to start making changes. Again. I’m tired of drama, of being hurt, of feeling like I’ll never be “good enough.” Screw it. I’m good enough for Aidan and that’s quite adequate.

Argh. Work tomorrow. I need to get to bed soon; I’m tired. Lots of time in the car over the past few days. I’m ready for a hot bath, then glorious sleep. But maybe some spaghetti first. ‘Til next time…

Smoky Mountains, TN

We finally got here at about 3ish. In the morning. Hit a horrible patch of traffic on the highway and was stuck in it for a LONG time. πŸ™

But the condo is worth it. It’s very, very beautiful. Huge, fully stocked, and soooo nice. πŸ™‚ Pictures soon. Right now I’m a bit tired, so I’m going to run. Later! πŸ™‚

The Black Girl Caption

LINK (one of the many): http://www.kvia.com/Global/story.asp?S=3380130

WAXAHACHIE, Texas A North Texas school district has apologized to a student identified only as “Black Girl” in a high school yearbook photo of the school’s National Honor Society.

All white students are identified by name in the photograph in the Waxahachie High School yearbook distributed Friday. The teen identified as “Black Girl” is the only black student in the photo.

Waxahachie school district spokeswoman Candace Ahlfinger says the district and the school board issued an immediate apology when the caption was reported.

Ahlfinger says the caption apparently was intended as a placeholder until the yearbook staff could identify the student. She tells the Waxahachie Daily Light that the label was a poor choice, but it was not meant maliciously nor meant to be printed.

She says the district is having the four pages affected by the mistake reprinted as soon as possible.

HAHAHA!

I sent Chris to the store to pick up a few things. One of them was a box of Optimum Care Conditioning No-Lye Relaxer. It was the last thing on the conveyer belt for Chris’s order.

Cashier (who was black): HOLD UP, IS THIS YOURS?
Chris (laughing): It’s my wife’s!

(Lots of Laughter)

Cashier: I had to ask, I thought it was (gestures to black people in line behind Chris) theirs.

BAHAHAHA.

Speaking of race-related stuff, have you guys heard of the whole yearbook incident? They put “BLACK GIRL” as the caption? WTH?

TTYL.

Working

Last night, I managed to get quite a bit done. Relatively speaking, anyway.

Even though my mom is coming down to visit me and I should have been making the house spic and span, I decided to revise my query letter and also scribble out a few more notes for my next novel. I also tweaked my synopsis a bit.

Indeed, I was a lot busier than normal with my writing last night.

It was a challenge too, what with Star Wars Episode I BLARING in the background (thanks a lot, Chris) and Aidan wanting attention at random times throughout the evening.

I feel excited, though. I’m ready to keep pressing on in this journey.
