Conversations With Aidan

The scene:

It’s bedtime, and at Aidan’s request, I’m lying with him for awhile before he goes to sleep. We’re both giggly and silly, and rhyming words. I ask him what rhymes with all sorts of things, and he answers, with cute little giggles. THEN, this ensues:

Ronni (not thinking): What rhymes with kiss?
Aidan (naughty little voice): Piss.

I bury my head in the pillow and LMAO. He sees that reaction and keeps saying it over and over.

Aidan (giggling like crazy): Piss. Pisssss. Pisss.

Finally, I tell him that he can only say that word around me because other people might not think it’s a nice thing for little boys to say.

The thing is, my mom told me that when I was about his age, I randomly yelled out: GOTTA PISS GOTTA PISS GOTTA PISS PISS PISS!

So really, I wasn’t shocked at all that Aidan rhymed piss with kiss.

Or that every time I thought he’d dozed off, he’d whisper “pissss,” and get me laughing again.

Silly little boy.

“Mommy, we’ve got the giggles!”

Oh, and a word of advice. DO NOT listen to a certain Prodigy song in the car while an inquisitive four-year-old rides in the back seat. He will ask “what’s this song called?” and you will have to come up with something quickly, like “smack your bootie,” so he won’t repeat the REAL title of the song.

That is all.

Invitations & Stationery

Invitations by Dawn has DISNEY invitations. If I weren’t trying to save money and have a low-budget wedding, I’d SO get these:

I mean, how cute, right?

But… Helen did offer to rustle up some samples for me, so of course, that will be my first choice. I’m looking forward to seeing what designs she comes up with for me. In the meantime, I am having a lot of fun looking at all the different catalogs and Web sites, and ordering free samples. You’d better believe I’m ordering a free sample of the Mickey Mouse one. 🙂

My second choice is getting invitations from Ann’s Bridal Bargains. They have nice, simple invitations for as little as $35 for 100. I totally don’t need that many, I’ll probably only need to order 50, which is $30 or something low like that. Their most expensive is about $85 for 100, which isn’t bad at all. Most places charge at least $130 for that many.

So far, my favorite catalog has been Invitations by Dawn; they have an amazing selection of invites, many that would perfectly match the theme of the wedding, but unfortunately, they have the price tag to go with it.

This is a list of things I absolutely need, stationery-wise:
– invitations (reception info will be printed on the invitation)
– response cards/envelopes
– “save the date” cards
– “thank you” cards (but those will not be custom ordered; I plan to get a plain box from Target or something!)

I wonder if I could get inexpensive “save the date” cards from Vista Print. IBD has magnets, which is a very charming idea. Expensive, but charming.

Thinking of invitations also gets me thinking of the verses. Verse This seems like a wonderful resource for all sorts of verses for all sorts of ceremonies. As you should know, this is my second marriage, but Adam’s first. I have a little boy who is going to be part of the ceremony somehow. I need to communicate our personalities, the ceremony/reception information, and Aidan’s involvement in 14 or fewer lines, plus a few extra for corner copy. I’m thinking this site will be helpful. They have loads of ideas.

Weekend/Random (Lots of Pictures)

I took Aidan on his first picnic yesterday. He was very excited.

Picnic Time!

We went to the Park of Roses. We had McDonalds, Rice Krispie treats, and granola bars. I had Hi-C to drink, and Aidan had chocolate milk. We sat on a Care Bears blanket and people watched. It was a nice evening.

Cake (Pictures)

Last night, Tami came over with a cake that served two purposes. One was to congratulate me on the engagement.

The other reason was so I could taste the first wedding cake recipe!

Tami had spent hours making this cake for me. She used fresh lemons, whole milk, and two sticks of butter. The icing is buttercream and also homemade.

IT WAS SO FREAKING YUMMY OMGWOWWOWYES!

The flavor was perfect. It wasn’t too sweet, but it had so much flavor and it was so tasty. I gobbled a small piece down in seconds, and wanted a second bigger piece but I was so full I couldn’t finish it. My mouth was very happy.

THEN she showed me a drawing of what the design will look like:

Could she have done any better? This is freakin’ perfect.
I showed Adam the pix this morning on email, and he approves.
Tami’s doing our cake, YAY!!!!

And the cool thing? She left some of the cake here for me. Guess what I’m having for dessert tonight? Yummm.

Adam’s so cute. He asked me “If you get all the big stuff done now, aren’t you worried that you’ll have nothing to do later?” Oh dear. He has no idea. As long as one is planning a wedding, there is always something to do. But getting the venue secured ASAP will give me a bit of breathing room. Trust me, this bride WANTS to get the big stuff out of the way, then she can have more fun with all the little details.
